What's On?

KHAS Meeting Monday 13th March

Dear KHAS Member

A reminder that our next meeting will be held on Monday 13th March at 7.45pm.  This month’s talk is entitled “Mapping the Tunnels of Warwick” and on this occasion we will have 3 visiting speakers all of whom are involved in augmented and virtual reality, bringing history to life.  Some of you may have seen programmes on television recently where it has been possible to see underground areas brought back to life through virtual reality equipment.

Below you will find details regarding our two summer visits and our booking lists will be open at the meeting:

On  Monday 10th July at 6pm we will have a private tour of Kenilworth Castle with accompanying talk by Jan Cooper entitled “Simon de Montfort: Life and Death and the Great Siege of 1266”.  There is no charge for this and numbers are limited to 30 people.

On Saturday 5th August, starting at 2.30pm, we will have a guided walking tour of Warwick including the Court House, where the tour will start and finish.  A donation of £5 per person is requested for this tour, for which there is a limit of 30 people. Payment will be collected upon booking – please bring the right amount in cash (so that we can pass it directly to the tour provider).

A reminder also that our subscriptions are now due for renewal.  Please see/contact our Treasurer,  Anthony, if you have not yet renewed.  Copies of Kenilworth History 2023 are also now available for paid up members.

For those of you who were unable to attend our AGM last month your KHAS Committee is now as follows:

Jan Cooper – Chair; Joanna Illingworth – Vice Chair; Anthony Manning – Treasurer; Chris Blunt – Webmaster and KH Editor; Margaret Kane and Sue Martin – Committee Members.

The posts of Secretary and third Committee member are still vacant!

During the meeting I gave notice that I will be standing down as Chair of the Society at the next AGM in February 2024, by which time I will have completed 15 years in that role!  It is now high time for someone with new ideas and perspectives to take the Society forward.  If any of you feel that you would like to discuss this opportunity in the coming months please feel free to contact me at any time.

Anthony Manning also gave notice of his intention to stand down at the next AGM after 10 years as our Treasurer.  Anyone who might be interested in knowing more about this role with a view to possibly taking it on should please contact Anthony.

In the meantime I look forward to seeing you all on the 13th  March.

Best wishes

Jan Cooper
