Kenilworth History 2025 will soon be available for members and non-members alike. Our yearly publication, containing 80 pages of recent research into local history, is packed with original and insightful articles on a wide range of subjects. There’s something for everyone in its pages, so we’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
This year we bring you articles on the newly found mediaeval stone missiles at the Castle, the local man responsible for designing what we now consider to be the first modern bicycle, a local hero of the holocaust, an investigation into ‘apotropaic’ marks carved into local stone buildings to guard against evil, an episode of history known as The Great Ejection of 1662, a lost Anglo-Saxon settlement within Kenilworth’s modern boundaries, an update on the naming of the new roads being built around Kenilworth, a catalogue of images of various wax seals used by Kenilworth Priory / Abbey, an appeal for information about Henry Street, the ongoing transcription of the register of Kenilworth’s abbot William Wall, a mayoral visit to the Abbey Museum & Heritage Centre and the conclusion of the saga of the mysterious stone dug up in a local garden. The cover commemorates the 450th anniversary of the visit of Queen Elizabeth I to Kenilworth Castle in 1575, which will be celebrated around the town this year. So, plenty of reading material to keep you going until next year’s edition!
Kenilworth History 2025 will be handed out to new and existing members who sign up for 2025 / 2026 at the AGM meeting on 10th February, the price being included in the annual KHAS membership fee. After that, it will go on general sale at Kenilworth Books in Talisman Square for £6.
