‘Barn’ Museum to Reopen on 26th May

If you have been through the Abbey Fields in recent weeks you cannot fail to have noticed that the Abbey ‘Barn’ Museum & Heritage Centre has been closed for repairs. The structure has been shrouded in a temporary canopy while repairs to the roof took place underneath, but is now set to open following the completion of the works.

The restoration was intended to entail a simple repair to the roof and replacement of its loose and damaged roof tiles. However, during the repairs it became apparent that additional bracing needed to be inserted to shore up the underlying roof structure.

The new roof contains a third of the old tiles and some “bat bump” ones for our nocturnal visitors.

Work having now completed, we are pleased to announce that the Abbey ‘Barn’ Museum & Heritage Centre is now set to reopen on Sunday May 26th, after some sterling work from a hardy bunch of volunteers to clean up and put the exhibits back in the upper storey. It will also be open Bank Holiday Monday 27th May, on both days 2.30 to 4.30 pm.

We hope you come along and meet our wonderful volunteers.
