A reminder that, as part of the commemorations of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Abbey, members of KHAS will be hosting free guided walks of the Priory/Abbey ruins today, Sunday 15th September 2019.
Take a walk back in time to when Kenilworth St. Mary’s Priory, later Abbey, was one of the most prestigious Augustinian houses in the Midlands. Hear about the people who lived there and what happened to them and their once beautiful buildings.
The walks will begin outside the Abbey ‘Barn’ Museum & Heritage Centre on Abbey Fields, Kenilworth, at 3pm and last for approximately one hour. Places are limited so please register at the Museum Reception (which will be open from 2.30pm) today.
Making its debut yesterday was the wonderful 3D reconstruction of Kenilworth Castle, painstakingly put together by a member of the Society. A new screen has been installed on the first floor of the Abbey ‘Barn’ Museum which shows the Castle as it might have looked before it’s destruction at the hands of Colonel Hawksworth’s men.
The Museum itself is open every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday afternoon from 2.30 to 4.30 pm until late September.
All visitors are welcome!
