KHAS Affairs

We’re back from the Summer Break – not really a break as much has been going on. A trip to Temple Balsall where Rev. Kathy Lloyd Roberts gave us a spirited and informative account of the history of the site and the functioning of the complex In August, we spent a morning exploring the two parish churches- the fine Norman edifice of St Nicholas, Beaudesert, and St. John’s, Henley, which was completely rebuilt in the 15th century. In a packed morning, we were given an authoritative introduction to the Guild Hall, followed by a ‘zip’around the Heritage Centre. This latter is a real tribute to vigour of the Henley community who provide volunteers to man the centre for most days of the year!! In the afternoon we were guided round the puzzle which is Wootton Wawen with its Saxon sanctuary.

This evening:

We pick up on the theme of rogues! Dr Gillian White will speak on The Most Dissolute Man in London: the 1st Duke of Devonshire and the Building of Chatsworth. Dr White started her career at the Warwickshire Museum and then worked for the National Trust as Curator / Collections Manager at Hardwick Hall, which was the focus of her Warwick PhD.

How about writing up something of interest for Kenilworth History?

Norman Stevens has the unenviable task of assembling the material for our annual publication, Kenilworth History. He rightly points out that the lazy days of summer provide just the opportunity for each of us to write up some small snippet which has caught our interest recently. Think what has made you stop and think and offer to write a few words on it for Norman. He would be delighted!!
