Last Month: Caroline Rann (Archaeology Projects Manager at Archaeology Warwickshire) outlined the discovery of archaeology on the new High School site. There had been no record of crop marks but a small wall section was revealed in a trial trench which, on further investigation, formed part of a large building 18 x 7.5m. Several buildings related to a Roman villa were discovered.
Tonight: Stephen Spinks will be talking about Edward II, not one of our most distinguished sovereigns, but one with many Warwickshire connections. He will focus on The man: a doomed inheritance.
Summer Excursions: The two excursions, to Kenilworth Castle and to Maxstoke Castle, were both fully subscribed at the last meeting. However, it is vital that, if you want to retain your place on the Maxstoke trip, payment is required THIS evening. There is a waiting list for places on both the Kenilworth Castle and the Maxstoke visits so if you have put your name down and subsequently find that you are no longer able to go please do let Jan know as soon as possible so that your place may be offered to someone else.

HELP BRING THE HOARD HOME …….
Warwickshire Museum Service has launched a campaign to raise £62,000 to buy a major Roman coin hoard, found recently on Edge Hill close to the 2008 find. They have just 4 months in which to reach the target!! Your Committee has sent a donation of £50 towards this appeal on behalf of KHAS members but there is still a long way to go. Please help!
Service of Nones: In this, the 900th anniversary year of Kenilworth’s Abbey of St Mary, Rev. Norman Stevens will be taking a service of Nones – the traditional service at 3pm – on 28th April in the Abbey ruins – if wet, it will be held in St Nicholas church.
